Tanner’s Year Ending 4 Mini Reviews (Rage, Watch Dogs, Elder Scrolls Online, A Winter’s Tale)

It is that time of the year again. 2014 is coming to a close and 2015 is just on the horizon. With that comes a whole new list of video games and movies for me to watch. 2014 has been a year of tops and turns for me. But just like 2013 I feel like as we come to an end, it would be a great idea to give a handful of mini reviews of video games and movies from 2014 just to get as many out there as possible for the best and worst of 2014 (that I personally reviewed. So with that being said I will be looking at 2 movies and 2 video games tonight. We have a lot of reviewing to do so let’s get to it!

Rage2014film4. Rage

Want to see some classic Nic Cage? Look no further than this movie. I can understand that his career hasn’t exactly gotten a well reception since The Wicker Man and the infamous BEES moment. But man Nic Cage is at his best when he is able to cut loose and be a big ole hammy action hero.

It isn’t a movie that will win any awards and most critics would tear this one a new one. But I’ll be honest. If you want a Hard R, non stop action, and adventure movie than look no further then Nicolas Cage’s Rage. It is fun, it is goofy, and it is worth a watch.

Final Score: 3/5

Watch_Dogs_box_art3. Watch Dogs

I feel like for this mini review I need to have the picture of Obi Wan Kenobi screaming YOU WERE THE CHOSEN ONE! If there is one word I can use to describe Watchdog it is disappointment. This game is a perfect example of everything that is wrong with next gen.

This game was overly hyped and upon its release it came with a resounding ‘eh’. The graphics are good but the plot is the same cookie cutter bullshit that we have gotten for the past three years. Aiden Pearce is one of the most bland and unoriginal protagonists I have seen in a long time. He is nothing more than a walking stereotype, the gameplay is uninspired, and all the game has to say is that at least it isn’t horrible.

Final Score: 2/5

Elder_Scrolls_Online_cover2. Elder Scrolls Online

Speaking of disappointment, let’s talk about an MMORPG that was destined for absolute let down. What an absolutely horrible idea. Elder Scrolls is amazing due to the fact that you have a big expansive world and it is a single player game. I feel like with ESO they took all originality and joy that could be found in an Elder Scrolls game and sucked it out to make what is by all accounts a horrendous World of Warcraft clone.

I always hated MMOs and after playing the beta of this game, I knew I was not going to get invested in this. It is terrible on all accounts and hopefully this will teach the people behind the Elder Scrolls game to stick with what they do right and leave the wasteland of MMOs to World of Warcraft.

Final Score: 1.5/5

1. Winter’s TaleWinter's_tale_(film)

This movie is awful and you need to see this. I’m serious! Go, rent this, and watch this right now! This movie is the patented Tanner Bivens Wonderful Bad Movie seal of approval. This is the After Earth and Battlefield Earth of 2014. This movie is phenomenally terrible. Will Smith is Lucifer, Russell Crowe is there to give his traditional hammy performance, and there is a motherfucking space horse!

I’m serious, this is the movie that you get a bowl of popcorn, get your friends around the television, and enjoy tearing it apart MST3K style. You will not be disappointed!

Final Score: 0/5

Thank you for reading and as always if you enjoyed this review then please like and subscribe for more. I’m not even near being done yet as we still have a couple more days before the end of the year. Coming up are a few more reviews as well as the best and worst of 2014.
