Life can really kick you in the balls when 88 5-7 page papers fall into your lap that you need to grade. But I am not going to skip another day, so here is another mini review to quench that appetite. The movie on the docket this week is one that I did not get a chance to watch when it first came out… But man, I really wish I had! The Babadook is one of the best psychological horror movies that I have seen in a long time! The story of the Babadook centers around Amelia (Essie Davis) and her son Oskar (Benjamin Winspar). After reading a disturbing children’s book, the evil creature comes to life and begins to trouble the little boy and her mother, threatening to possess Amelia and murder her entire family.
Conclusion
The Babadook is amazing. This is what I want out of my horror movies, the right amount of dread and fear that can paralyze us with fright. Essie Davis and Benjamin Winspar steal the show for a character driven movie. It is on Netflix and I suggest everyone give it a watch.
Final Score: 4.5/5
Thank you for reading and I promise that after finals week is over that I will be back to my regular reviewing schedule.
