Tanner Reviews Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

GotG_Vol2_posterI FINALLY got back to the movie theater. While I plan to go to see Alien: Covenant this week since I am a glutton for punishment and watching everything I love die, I did get a chance to see Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, so that makes me happy. What more can really be said about Guardians of the Galaxy at this point? It is easily the best franchise in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and I will challenge anyone that says otherwise. The story is great, the chemistry is there, and overall it is just an amazing movie. Vol 2 does have a few problems with it on a minuscule level. More importantly the comedy and competing with the first movie which was more than likely the best in the franchise. But overall, it was a fun experience.

The movie is a much more quiet movie compared to the first one is much more of an introspection on a number of characters in the franchise. In the movie, we learn of Starlord’s (Chris Pratt) father and a lot of his past.

Conclusion

Overall this movie is fantastic. It truly delves into the characters and expands the mythos of the Guardians of the Galaxy. It does have the feeling of a holding pattern type of movie. After the teaser with Thanos, not having Thanos in the movie seems like a movie that is completely build up to a cooler event… Plus the comedy is ramped up to the point that characters like Drax the Destroyer are nothing but a walking punchline.

Beyond that though, Kurt Russell is the man, Chris Pratt is excellent as Starlord, Gamorra is a great grounding influence in the story, the action is there, the comedy is there, and it is just a fantastic watch for this summer season.

Final Score: 4.5/5

Thank you for reading and please come back Tuesday for another episode of Crit or Miss.
