Announcing Top 100 Greatest Movies of All Time (Honorable Mentions included)

It is finally time! For four years now I have wanted to make the Top 100 Greatest Movies of All Time… I waited, I watched, and I plotted. I finally feel like it is time to finally make the definitive list.

Please keep in mind, this list is meant to be more than just a movies quality. I can understand that a lot of the older movies are known for being classics and masterpieces… BUT other movies have impacted the culture of society more and, as such, they will be ranked higher then just for the fact that a movie has been traditionally seen as a classic. Also keep in mind that this list will be a little more skewed towards newer movies. NOW, that doesn’t mean the old movies are still going to be present. As a matter of fact, number one and several of the top ones are still going to be the same. But as time has gone on, movies like Contempt have been overpassed by the cultural power of something like The Rocky Horror Picture Show. So just bare in mind the criteria of the list. The films were each judged by the following:

A film’s quality
The Cultural Impact of the Film
The Story
The Mechanics of a Film
A Certain Aspect of the Film that Changed Filmmaking in the Popular Culture
All genres will be treated fairly. Dramas will not, and should not, be held in higher regard to horror, comedy, and so forth simply due to the fact they are telling a heavier story
2017 movies are not in the running for the list. But 2016 movies will be in the running to make the list.

*Disclaimer… I am one guy with a personal opinion so some of it may permeate to the placement of the films, though I tried to be as objective as possible. Just keep in mind, unlike other lists that has a score of people. This is one dude assessing hundreds of movies.*

With that being said, choosing the Top 100 was no small feat. In fact even with the soon to be mentioned 50 honorable mentions, I left out a great number of movies that killed me to take off the list. Whenever I went through every movie released from 1900 to 2016, I had a shortlist of 651 potential movies that I could make a case for being in the Top 100. So bare this in mind, that I had to remove 500 worthy contenders before I got to the definitive list. Movies like Jerry Maguire, Good Will Hunting, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid, Rain Man, The Ten Commandments, A League of their Own, Home Alone, Couching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Howl’s Moving Castle, The Secret of NIMH, and Grease are all movies that just BARELY missed the cut… So it isn’t something that was particularly easy to do. Tanner’s Revised Top 25 Favorite Movie of All Time

So, considering the fact that I have finally decided to write the 100 Greatest Movies of All Time… Which is coming soon… I decided to revisit one of my favorite posts of all time: My Favorite Movies of All Time. Here is the thing, opinions change, ideas change, and ultimately my tastes have changed. Some movies have become more prevelent in my mind. Some… Some have fallen off the board altogether. When I originally created my Top 25 list… I completely snubbed a few of my favorite movies due to good ole fashion forgetfulness. As such, movies like Die Hard and Reservoir Dogs have made and rectified the list. So with that said, please enjoy my Top 25 FAVORITE MOVIES OF ALL TIME!

Disney Princess MOVIES ONLY Ranked from Worst to Best

So… I got some rather stimulating comments last week about my list of the Disney Princesses ranked from worst to best. I got several comments on this front, but one of the main ones was some misconceptions of how I ranked the system. My ranking was based on the 11 Disney Princesses + Frozen because I felt Frozen was eventually going to become part of this group. Your opinion on whether or not it should be included on this list has been noted and as such… It will be included on this list. Life sucks, sometimes you don’t get what you want.

BUT, in order to understand that my last list was graded on a mix of the Disney Princess character, the film quality, AND the impact this character has had, I want to now create a new list to illustrate how a change in the dimensions of the list can alter its ranking. So with that being said, this time I will be ranking the 11 Disney Princess movies + Frozen in order of their film’s overall quality. With that being said, let’s start at number 12. Disney Princess Movies Ranked from Worst to Best

When it comes to movies and characters, you will be hard pressed to find a set of characters as iconic and trans-generational as The Disney Princesses. Starting from their first movies in 1937 with Snow White & The Seven Dwarfs and continuing down the line to the most recent addition, 2013’s Frozen, there are very few characters that represent the majesty and wonder that the Disney Corporation strives to be. The Disney Princesses are a collection of some of the timeless classic movies in American Cinematic History and I guarantee that each and every person who reads this list has at least one of these movies that is near and dear to your heart. So I decided that it was high time to take each of these 12 movies and list them from the Worst at number 12 all the way down to the Best Disney Princess movie out there.

I am going to stress HARD that this was not an easy list to make. There are so many factors that go into this list and so many ways that I could list them. SO FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO ARE READY TO JUDGE ME, here is how I am going to create this list. If I were to make a list solely on how good or bad the movie is or how these movies had an impact on the culture at large, this would be a VERY different list. So, what I decided was to limit my list to a certain criteria.

First off, I will only be including the eleven movies that are currently representing the Disney Princesses AND one movie that, I personally feel, is soon going to be included in this list; so much so that I feel that there inclusion is absolutely needed. So movies like The Hunchback of Notre Dame with Esmerelda, The Lion King with Nala, and Atlantis: The Lost Empire with Kida are out. So sorry, them’s the breaks kids. Take it up with Disney, not me. Also, I will be looking at each of these movies for their critical strengths, the impact that these movies have had on our culture, and of the character of the princess’s themselves. Ultimately, some movies may be ‘better’ than others, but due to the role of the princess in the movie, they may be brought down a peg or two. I will attempt to make my points clear with each group. Also, please keep in mind that just because a movie is low on my list does not mean that I think the movie is bad. On the contrary, even the lowest movie on my list would receive a 2.5/5 from me. So that tells you the kind of competition that we have. With that being said, let’s get started. Continue reading “Disney Princess Movies Ranked from Worst to Best”

Tanner’s Top 25 Favorite Movies of All Time (25-13)

Considering that two weeks from now is going to be my two year anniversary, I feel it is time to answer a question that I get asked a lot, what are my favorite movies? This site may tackle video games, anime, various references in pop culture, and so forth… But above all else this site is about movie reviews. The entire reason I started this site to begin with was to become a respected movie critic and I feel I am well on my way to accomplishing that goal. After two years of reviewing and writing I have decided that it is time to release my Top 25 All Time Favorite Movies!

Now due to the sheer amount of typing I am going to be doing, I have decided to split this list into two different articles. One today and the second later in the week. This is the list that includes my honorable mentions as well as numbers 25 through 13. I want everyone to keep in mind that this list is to commemorate my 25 favorite movies of all time. This has nothing to do with the greatness of these movies or their place in history. This is just merely a list of the 25 movie that I enjoy watching the most. If you disagree… Well I’m sorry, but this is a list of my favorites so screw you. With that being said, let’s start with some honorable mentions and then on to 25.
