You know, at first I was not going to make a best and worst video games list of 2014. As I stated earlier in the year, the concept of buying/renting video games had become an expensive adventure and I wanted to focus more on movies instead of video games for my site. But then I realized as I was looking over all my reviews of 2014 that I did in fact have a good enough portion of video games that I reviewed to make a decent list out of them and said, oh hell why not?
Looking back at 2014 when it comes to video games is like going to a strip club on a Tuesday. Ugliness and desperation as far as the eye can see, all of which are hoping you too are desperate enough to give them money for what is by all accounts sub par entertainment. The vast majority of video games released by the big dogs have not necessarily been bad as they have been ‘mediocre’ and ‘safe’. Which is depressing when you realize that the industry needs a swift kick in the balls that none of the games are willing to do. But there have been a couple of gems to come out and today we are going to highlight the ones that rule the shit house roost and the few that were able to crawl out of the cesspool of filth that is the video game industry of 2014. We can talk about the awesome perks of having a wonderful girlfriend who owns a Xbox One later, but one of the bigger ones that is pertinent today is if you run a review site like me that reviews video games, then you get to see some of these games without going through the hassle of buying a next gen console. But either way, on to the subject of today. One of said girlfriend’s favorite game series is Dragon Age, a game that I never really got into. The reason for this is the same reason I didn’t get really into Mass Effect when it first came out… I just didn’t feel like picking it up. One of those things that is always in the back of your mind, that game that you REALLY want to play but just find other things to occupy your time on your way to the grave and by the time you do play it, it is way past the point of relevancy.
But since she was a big fan of it, I decided to get the crash course from her personally which all lead to Dragon Age Inquisition. After hearing about it I had to say, where has this game been all my life?! I love me some good action fantasy stories and Dragon Age for me as me hooked just the same way Elder Scrolls has hooked me in the past. Out of all the next gen games I have had the chance to either see or play first hand, I have to say that FINALLY we have a game that looks and feels like it needs to be played with the next generation of consoles. Unlike Watch Dogs, Dead Rising 3, Far Cry 4, Killzone Shadowfall, Sunset Overdrive, and countless others that fall into the category of massive pants shitting disappointment, Dragon Age Inquisition is the first game I have seen that has delivered genuine enjoyment.
