Tanner Reviews Ghostbusters (2016)

Ghostbusters_2016_film_posterAh! I finally got to see it! I have been looking forward to this one for a number of reasons. My first reason is because Ghostbusters is one of my favorite movies of all time. I adore Ghostbusters! It is my childhood with some of my favorite actors of all time and one of my favorite directors of all time. It is, without a doubt, a perfect movie. So when I heard that the Ghostbusters remake was coming out I was hoping that it could capture just a little bit of the magic that the original created for future generations to become hooked and watched the original as well. Second, I wanted to see a movie that could show the legacy of Harold Ramis, an amazing human being who tragically passed away a few years ago. Third, I was wondering how the movie would work after the abysmal trailer that was released earlier in the year. Fourth, I was hoping that the movie was going to be good just to shut a lot of people up who take remakes far too personally. Don’t get me wrong, I can be someone calling for movies to be left alone as much as the next guy. But I am not one who is going to dismiss a movie as trash before even seeing the movie in the first place. After seeing the movie, I have to say that I am glad to say that this was one of the best movies I have seen so far in 2016. Continue reading “Tanner Reviews Ghostbusters (2016)”

Tanner Reviews The Secret Life of Walter Mitty

The_Secret_Life_of_Walter_Mitty_posterAh my Christmas day movie and not only that I got to watch it in my favorite theater, The Grandin Theater in Roanoke Virginia. So yes, after seeing Saving Mr. Banks, I saw the second movie on my list The Secret Life of Walter Mitty. A retelling of a 1947 movie, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty is the brain child of comedian Ben Stiller. As the years have gone by, I have really become a big fan of Ben Stiller’s work. In particular with films that he has directed. Tropic Thunder and Zoolander have proven to be very effective and very funny movies and Cable Guy, while being heavily dated was not a bad film to watch. (Reality Bites I have not seen). The Secret Life of Walter Mitty seems to be Stiller’s first attempt at dipping his toe into more serious waters. Don’t get me wrong though, this film is really funny as well. But I think it does show the range that Stiller can reach and not just stay in the comedy genre. Tanner Reviews Despicable Me 2

Despicable_Me_2_posterIt always is worrisome to go see a film like Despicable Me 2. A film that is heralded as a classic and a very fun and very enjoyable family movie is coming out with a sequel… And for the most part these sequels are hit and miss. Some of them are okay, but other can be outright horrendous. Any time you watch a sequel to a children’s cartoon movie, the question usually asked is, “What happens after ‘Happily Ever After’?” Not to mention these movies are some of the biggest offenders of the sequel generating monster, knowing full well that kids will watch whatever they throw at them and stare at their demographics charts saying ‘Kids liked (Insert Thing)? THEN QUADRUPLE THE THING! MAKE THING TOYS, THING PROMOTIONS! RAM IT DOWN THOSE LITTLE BASTARDS THROATS! THINGS! Continue reading “Tanner Reviews Despicable Me 2”
