From the Vaults: Transformers Animated

Transformers_Animated_AutobotsSo, as you all are sure aware, I am a huge fan of Transformers. The G1 series is intricate to my childhood and I still am nostalgic for it to this day.  While I do love it, I do admit that just about everything that was released of Transformers after the fact… Kind of sucks. Beast Wars was solid until it went back to Cybertron. But beyond the the best I can come up with is Transformers: Prime which is… Okay… Just okay. And don’t even get me started on the fucking Michael Bay movies… Well… Almost everything. There is one other show that I do love from the Transformers line that came up after the fact and that show is Transformers: Animated.

Yet strangely enough this is a series that is not looked upon fondly for some reason. Often considered to be too “kid friendly” and a little silly, Transformers: Animated doesn’t typically get brought up when you talk about the greatness of Transformers… Which is a shame considering the show is fucking solid! So today we are going to open up the vault to make a case for Transformers: Animated being an underrated gem. Continue reading “From the Vaults: Transformers Animated”

5 Good Movies From Terrible Directors

A long time ago, I wrote a list of terrible movies made by great directors and after thinking back on it, I never did give the devil his due. There are some terrible directors out there, but just like great directors are not immune from pushing out absolute crap, bad directors can sometimes get lucky every now and again. So with that being said, I am going to make a list to commemorate those terrible directors that got lucky a time or two. This is 5 Good Movies by Terrible Directors! Top 5 Transformers Generation 1 Episodes

220px-Transformers_G1_series_logoOH right in the nostalgia. Talk about my childhood, I remember watching the original Generation 1 Transformers as a kid and just being absolutely enamored in the world. I had the toys, I had some of the episodes on VHS, and as I got older I even was able to grab the entire collection on DVD from China before the Live Action movies revived the series. I still watch them every now and again just for the sake of some nostalgia and after watching it as an adult I can say with the up most certainty… That the series is actually rather bad. It is episodic, there is a plethora of animation, voice acting, and continuity errors, and the laws of common sense make you sit there and scratch your head wondering why nobody has died in this universe until the Transformers Movie.  All that being said, I still love the shit out of them! I love the series and watch it whenever I get the chance and they are not all bad. Some of the episodes are pretty good and today’s list is made to showcase some of the best, the Top 5 Transformers Generation 1 Episodes.

Now as always I preface my list by saying that this list is my own personal opinion. If you have a different opinion, then please let me know, I love a good debate. Next up I base this list on a number of things. First off, what was the feel of the episode. Did it feel like something was at stake or was it simply filler. Second was their character development of any kind or any type of indication that there was continuity in the story. Finally, was the show memorable? Each fan of the series has those episodes that stick out in their mind so memorability counts. Also keep in mind that episodes that have multiple parts will be lumped into one choice. Also since I already reviewed the Tranformers Movie, it isn’t counted. With that being said, allow me to list some honorable mentions. Continue reading “Top 5 Transformers Generation 1 Episodes”

Tanner’s Top 10 Guilty Pleasures

Guilty pleasures… We all have them. It is just a fact of life, no matter how refined our tastes are for certain media we will never escape the fact that there are some movies, television shows, anime, books, and so on and so forth that we KNOW for a fact are absolute steaming piles of shit… But for whatever reason whether it be nostalgia, a certain performance, or just the fact that it is so bad that it is wonderful we just cannot stop watching them. Anybody who says that they do not have a guilty pleasure is either A) too embarrassed to admit to their guilty pleasure or B) lying to themselves saying that it is actually good to make themselves feel better about liking something that is terrible. It is just a fact of life and I am absolutely no exception. I freely admit that I have a long list of guilty pleasures that I thoroughly enjoy watching and have no problem sharing them with you right now in my Top Ten Guilty Pleasures!

Keep in mind, the way that this Top 10 list will be ranked is by the level of badness of the movie + shame that I feel for liking them. Also keep in mind that this is my own personal list. If you would like to share your opinions then please do so, I would absolutely love to hear it. Also if you do not think these movies are bad, please share them. I would love to debate. But make no mistake, if a movie appears on this list, it is in this critics opinion that technically they are absolutely terrible movies, but at the same time I absolutely love them! So let’s get started with some honorable mentions. Continue reading “Tanner’s Top 10 Guilty Pleasures”

Tanner Reviews The Transformers: The Movie

215px-Transformers-movieposter-westWell damn… I feel like I owe my readers and fans an apology on this one. Due to the fact that I recently returned to my previous job officiating football (European not American), I was unable to see a movie for this week and I am late for this review to boot. My bad on that one, but I’m able to shift my schedule so this shouldn’t happen again. Either way, I still need to fill the ‘Sunday’ slot with something so I have decided to review a nostalgic movie from my past. Growing up, one of my favorite shows to watch was always the First Generation of Transformers. A few of my next door neighbors watched the series when they were younger and had most of the first two seasons on VHS. I would borrow them all the time so I could watch them and eventually they gave the tapes to me. If there is one cartoon that really sums up my childhood I have to say that it is Transformers.
