Tanner Reviews Pokemon Uranium

downloadSo, I have been working on this damn game for weeks and I am going to be honest, I am tired of waiting. I was able to pick up Pokemon Uranium, a fan made game based on the Game Freak license, and have been having a good time playing it since I got it. Seriously, for anyone out there who likes Pokemon, please go find a friend who has it so you can get the files from them. As far as fan made games are concerned, this thing is at least worth a once over. But after becoming stuck for the umpteenth time grinding, I have decided to go ahead and write the review of this game while I am still most of the way complete. So I’m going to ask you to keep that fact in mind as I go into detail here. Continue reading “Tanner Reviews Pokemon Uranium”

Top Ten Favorite Pokemon

So considering the resurgence of Pokemon in my life, I realized that I never did a list of my favorite Pokemon of all time. So why not start today? These are my all time favorite Pokemon!

Now I will stress a few things. First and foremost, this is my own opinion, obviously, and do not have a direct correlation with the greatest Pokemon. If you want that, go check out that post I made about three years ago. Second, my childhood centers around first and second generation Pokemon. As such, this will be first and second generation heavy. Sorry, thems the breaks. With that said, let’s start with some honorable mentions. Continue reading “Top Ten Favorite Pokemon”

The Most Popular Pokemon of Each Type

I did promise no more Pokemon Go articles. But I never promised that I would stop writing Pokemon articles in general… Well okay, maybe I did about three years ago when the sheer amount of opinions I got from them somewhat irritated me. But that is beside the point. I thought to myself, why not give this shot another go and why not take a look at the favorite Pokemon of each type?! Doesn’t that sound fun?… Well regardless, I’m ready to deal with all the backlash and variety of differing comments this post will bring. So let’s do this! This is the Most Popular Pokemon of Each type!

Now, to set a few quick ground rules. This list IS NOT about the most powerful Pokemon or the best Pokemon for a given situation. This is about the Pokemon from each type with enough zeitgeist to carry a powerful calling. I will also include a large number of runner ups who came close to taking it but just barely inched it out. Finally, in order to be in the running for a type, the Pokemon must have the “type” as their PRIMARY type. In order to create fairness to all Pokemon, if a Pokemon is listed as Fire/Fighting, they will be judged in the Fire category and NOT in the flying category. The Stars and Busts of Pokemon Go

Pokemon_GoI promise that this is going to be the last Pokemon Go article! I know, I have become a bit of a fanboy these past couple of days over the mobile game. But I truly do love the experience and there is plenty to write and to talk about. So I decided today to make a little list of the 151 Pokemon condensed into six categories and rank them based on whether or not they have been awesome stars of the game… or if they are destined to dwell in your Pokemon box for the rest of forever until you transfer them. This is the Stars and Busts of Pokemon Go.

Now, please keep in mind, that I am using this as a blanket term but there are certainly exceptions in this world. If you have a level 2343853 Nidoking and I say Nidokings, on the whole, are not great, your one awesome Nidoking does not necessarily throw off the curve. This is an observation of the game on the whole. With that said, let’s get started. Continue reading “The Stars and Busts of Pokemon Go”

Tanner Follows up on Pokemon Go

Pokemon_GoSo, I have to admit that this weekend has been dedicated to playing Pokemon Go and nothing else has fallen into place for that. So I thought I would write a brief follow up of my experience with Pokemon Go and some problems that have come up since playing.

Overall, the game is fucking incredible. There is an attention to detail on where Pokemon spawn that really didn’t need to go into a game. It has also got a lot of people to go out and exercise as well interact with others who are playing the game as well. There are a few problems. The crashing servers have become notorious at this point and the fact that the gyms are a pain in the ass even if you have a great data coverage. There are constant moments of people being kicked out of gyms after they have won and not being able to battle at all. But those negatives aside, it is an excellent experience that I recommend everyone try out if you are a fan of video games and Pokemon.

Tanner Reviews Pokemon Go

Pokemon_GoWell this was an inevitability. I’m not typically one to pick up the mobile games or review them for that matter. I tend to stick to PC and consoles since I consider most mobile games to be little more than scams to get people to pay $2,500 for a little bit of time wasting. However, the possibility of becoming a Pokemon Master using GPS coordinated maps is something that not even my cynical ass can ignore. So yeah, I picked up Pokemon Go just like the thousands of other people who have given the game the old college try and I have to say that I am pleasantly surprised at how enjoyable it is and not just in a “let me give you my life savings for some way to pass time on the shitter.”

In Pokemon Go you take on the role of an aspiring Pokemon master. You are giving a starting Pokemon and beyond that you must go out and literally explore the world. You go to various locations, visit popular landmarks, and collect items and Pokemon. You can later go to gyms once you reach level 5 to train your Pokemon and potentially become a gym leader. From the Vaults: Digimon

downloadWhenever I was a kid, I absolutely loved Pokemon and Digimon. I was not one of the people who found themselves in one of the two camps and then challenged the elitism of the other side on which one was better. They were both equally fun in my childhood mind and I loved watching them on TV and pretending to be the characters as a child. When it came to staying value however, Pokemon is easily the winner. While Digimon slipped from my mind, Pokemon has remain a constant force of entertainment for me.

But after seeing Digimon on Netflix and the subsequent nostalgia boner soon followed, I decided to give it another watch… And boy was I disappointed. I don’t know if years of abscense or the fact that I am older and have more brain cells at my disposal has made me see the series for what it is, but man I was expecting a much better experience than what I got.

Digimon is the story of creatures that live in the Digital World. One day, a group of kids are teleported into this strange new world and are given special devices as well as their very own Digimon as their companion. Together, these kids and their Digimon, dubbed the DigiDestined) have to take on evil forces that threaten the safety of the digital world and real world. Continue reading “From the Vaults: Digimon”

Top 10 Pokemon Everyone Forgets About

Pokemon-logoSo with the HvZ:Athens Invitational this Friday and Saturday, almost all of my time has been devoted to that so I have sadly not been able to watch a movie or play a game to review for the site. So with that in mind, it is time for a Top 10 List and what could be a better topic than Pokemon? Like I said when I made my list of the Top 25 Greatest Pokemon of All Time, the mere concept of Pokemon is perfect for anyone to create a list. You have your greatest Pokemon obviously, but you also have your weirdest Pokemon, most controversial Pokemon, strongest Pokemon, coolest Pokemon, and the list goes on. I was thinking to myself, what list should I make this time? I could do one of these lists, but that would just be doing what everyone else does with a few changes here and there. But then I thought… You know what’s a list I haven’t seen a lot of? A list of the Pokemon that we pushed to the side. Considering that there are over 700 Pokemon out there, it is needless to say that a few of these Pokemon just would not stick out from the crowd. With so many cool Pokemon or at least memorable Pokemon out there, some are bound to fade into a little bit of obscurity. But not anymore! I am going to make a list dedicated to the Pokemon that never got their chance in the spot light. This is the Top Ten Pokemon Everyone Forgets About!
