Cheesy Romance Month: Mini Review: Cruel Intentions

cruel_intentions_ver1So yeah… My life has gotten insanely busy recently and tragically I ran out of time to write a full review for this one. So I apologize for this one. But all things considered, you aren’t really missing much. This is the 1990’s when shallow remakes of classic literature reigned supreme. As such, Cruel Intentions may very well be the worst of them all. A story about an upper class kids being assholes to one another, the movie is downright unwatchable even when you are one of the people who are the target demographic. It is no wonder that this movie has quickly been lost to the sands of time.  Continue reading “Cheesy Romance Month: Mini Review: Cruel Intentions”

Shitty Romance Month: Fifty Shades of Grey

Fifty-Gray-posterSo let’s end Cheesy Romance Month 2 with one of the most talked about and controversial films of 2015 to date. Granted this is by far not a romantic comedy, but it sure as shit is cheesy in its badness so I feel like it can qualify for the theme. I have been told all week that I should not see Fifty Shades of Grey. For the first time in my critic career, people pleaded with me not to see this movie. It certainly was a strange change of pace to say the least. But I was not to be deterred! I forced myself through the movie and after watching it I have to say that this thing is the most boring and lackluster disappointments I have seen in a very long time.

I went into this movie thinking that it was going to be an absolute train wreck of bad. I was ready for the absolute worst! I was ready for the Battlefield Earth of the 2010’s. But instead of being bad beyond reason, it was just mind numbingly boring. I had to force myself to stay awake through this movie. Talk about completely unexpected! I can not see how anyone would want to see this movie, even those who liked the book. It truly is the cure to insomnia. Continue reading “Shitty Romance Month: Fifty Shades of Grey”

Cheesy Romance Month: Just Go With It

Just_Go_with_It_PosterSo we come to an end of Cheesy Romance Month. We have looked at our cheesy romances through the ages. We took a trip back to the 80’s with John Hughes’ Sixteen Candleswe went to the 90’s and witnessed the tandem of Nora Ephron and Meg Ryan’s rom com magic in You’ve Got Mailand last week we took at look at the early 2000’s and Matthew McConaughey’s patented movie poster power lean with How to Lose a Guy in 10 DaysSo now it is only fitting that we look to the future! We are only now reaching the halfway mark of the 2010’s and it is hard to see where the trends are going to go. What will future decades think of when they look back at 2010’s rom coms? Will we as a society look back at the 2010’s and have fond memories of Rom Com’s the likes of Silver Lining’s Playbook or will we look back on the 2010’s with the disdain and disgust of another Happy Madison abomination squeezed out of Adam Sandler’s ass cheeks, Just Go With It. Based on the movie that gave Goldie Hawn her only Academy Award Cactus Flower, the movie featuring Jennifer Aniston and Sandler is an example of just how bad a cheesy romantic comedy can actually go.
