Over these past couple of days, I have been on a Quentin Tarantino movie kick. Over the span of this weekend, I have watched all 8 movies (9 movies if you split Kill Bill in 2 movies) and decided that my Sunday post would be ranking each of them from their least good to the absolute best. Now I will stress, this is NOT a worst to best list. All of these movies, at their worst, are excellent or at least sit-through-able. But just keep that in mind if your favorite movie happens to land at the bottom of this list. With that being said, let’s get started. I’m rounding out the rest of my reviews before I come to the end of 2015 and the Best and Worst movies and video games of the previous year. I attempt to round out the 2015 movies with the latest movie to be added to the Quentin Tarantino oeuvre; The Hateful Eight. This was a movie that I have been looking forward to all year. I love me some Tarantino! I frequently watch Pulp Fiction, Kill Bill, and Inglorious Basterds and will also cite them as some of my all time favorite movies. Considering his recent success with Django Unchained and his consistent love letters to the genres of spaghetti westerns, 1970’s Japanese Samurai films, and various exploitation movies… I do believe it is easy to say that everyone was waiting in anticipation to see the Tarantino’s eighth movie.
Tragically speaking, I do not think the product of The Hateful Eight is going to live up to our expectations. That isn’t to say that the movie is bad. The movie is decent and another Tarantino western, which is never a terrible thing. But all things considered, The Hateful Eight will forever be listed as one of the more forgotten of Tarantino’s movies. Continue reading “Tanner Reviews The Hateful Eight”
On this episode of NTSOE, I am joined by Fiona Kelly, Nick Uroseva, and Tom Goldthwait from Derailed Games. On this episode, we discuss the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the ten movies (as of this date) that make them up! I hope you all enjoy some witty banter and some great information on the MCU!
We round off my amazing movie binging experience with a little film that I was not expecting to see. Not only was it a toss up on which movie I would round off my night with, but also the last thing I was expecting from the month of February is an amazing spy movie that has so many loving nods and throwbacks to the source material that I am honestly shocked it was not released in May or June. Kingsmen: The Secret Service was a surprisingly wonderful movie that needs to be watched by anyone who is a fan of espionage films or anyone who just needs a good movie going experience. The first major summer blockbuster and the first film post-Avengers from the widely acclaimed Marvel series that is going on, Iron Man 3 had a tough order to fill. Even though Iron Man and the continuing story of Tony Stark is arguably the most popular of the Avengers franchise it is easy to see how this film could hit rock bottom and hard.
I kept this in mind when I went to the theater with my friends this past weekend and was ready to expect an awesome Superhero Blockbuster like the first Iron Man film… and I was also ready to expect a painful atrocity the levels of Ryan Reynold’s shit picture Green Lantern.
