FINALLY! There has been a solid game that I have played this year that could definitely be worthy of the 2016 Game of the Year honors. 2016 has not been a good year for gaming. Unlike other years where there were two or three awesome titles competing with one another, this year has been a series of disappointments, bombs, and forgettable Triple A turds with a resurgence of quality mobile games and a hand full of powerful indie darlings. When Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End sat in my Top 3 for the better part of a year and the only reason that a fun, but otherwise, forgettable game sat there for so long is because other games were just plain bad… That is saying something. But man, do I get that good ol’ fashion great game feel after playing Civilization VI. Finally, a game released in 2016 that I can play for hours on end and never get bored.
I’m a huge fan of the series as anyone will know, so the game would certainly have to fuck up pretty bad in order for me to not like it. But to tempt me away from my Civ V comfort zone and away from arguably the best game in the series is not easy task. But I will be damned if they aren’t seriously tempting me with some awesome new additions that make some of the lack of content disappear from my mind’s eye. So yesterday, I and Twitch Streamer Jate Nott of Nott in My House played a long haul of the new video game, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. To all of those who stopped in to give us a watch, thank you very much and please support Mr. Nott in his future streams. He is a good friend of mine and an entertaining streamer. In preparation for the game, I decided to do some research… And by research, I mean look at Wikipedia. From what I have seen, this game has been turning heads left and right. Not to mention, receiving copious amounts of perfect scores by many critics. Due to the fact that a lot of critics are bought off by big corporations, I did reserve a little bit of judgment when I saw this. But, like all things, I sifted through the bullshit to find out what people were really saying, and that is that this game is very good.
So after giving it a play, I have to say… Yes… This game is very good. It is most certainly a strong game and a beautiful one at that. Unlike games like Watch Dogs, Destiny, The Order 1886, and so forth that have largely disappointed the consuming masses, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt finds itself at the good games table… A surprisingly bare table when it comes to Next Gen Triple A titles. Along with Shadows of Mordor and Dragon Age: Inquisition, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is truly a game that shines. It is certainly a game that will be in contention for Best Game of 2015… But does it deserve the massive praise that it is receiving? Well let’s take a look. I do love Steam. Especially when they offer a free three-day test of certain games. Over the weekend the offer was extended to me to play Saints Row IV and Company of Heroes 2. Seeing as how I already reviewed Saints Row IV (which you can view by clicking here), I decided it was time to give Company of Heroes 2 a go. I never got a chance to play the first Company of Heroes, but I always am a fan of real-time strategy games so it was certainly worth a play through. While I can safely say that my experience to the game was positive, there was never a moment where I was blown away by anything that I was seeing. Real-Time strategy games based around World War II are a dime a dozen in the gaming world so another one released is not necessarily breaking new ground. But all things considered it is still an enjoyable play. Continue reading “Tanner Reviews Company of Heroes 2”
So the 100th review is finished and I am now over the hump. But before we get back to the normalcy I want to finish this whole event of my website with another list about my past and what made me the man I am today. This time I want to talk about my favorite video games of all time. Needless to say this is a pretty big part in my life and considering that this is a Top 20 list, I do not want to get too much into explanation or this post will become far too long and bloated than I would like. What I will say is this… My choices for my favorite video games might seem a bit odd and a lot will be unexpected but it goes without saying, without these 20 games I would not be the same person! So let’s get started with a few honorable mentions! Continue reading “Tanner’s Top 20 Favorite Video Games of All Time”
