So, as you all are sure aware, I am a huge fan of Transformers. The G1 series is intricate to my childhood and I still am nostalgic for it to this day. While I do love it, I do admit that just about everything that was released of Transformers after the fact… Kind of sucks. Beast Wars was solid until it went back to Cybertron. But beyond the the best I can come up with is Transformers: Prime which is… Okay… Just okay. And don’t even get me started on the fucking Michael Bay movies… Well… Almost everything. There is one other show that I do love from the Transformers line that came up after the fact and that show is Transformers: Animated.
Yet strangely enough this is a series that is not looked upon fondly for some reason. Often considered to be too “kid friendly” and a little silly, Transformers: Animated doesn’t typically get brought up when you talk about the greatness of Transformers… Which is a shame considering the show is fucking solid! So today we are going to open up the vault to make a case for Transformers: Animated being an underrated gem. Continue reading “From the Vaults: Transformers Animated”
Well… This is a shitty way to start the week. Bill Paxton may not be the most memorable actor in my life. But he certainly left quite an impression on my life. He has been in some of my favorite movies of all time and one of his most iconic rolls is in my favorite movie of all time, Aliens. With the passing of Bill Paxton, I wanted to shelf the original plan for this Sunday and make a post dedicated in his honor. So, without further ado, here is the Top 5 Bill Paxton Movies… And One Show. Continue reading “Top 5 Bill Paxton Movies and One Show”
For those who have been following the site for some time will know that I used to write reviews for televisions shows as well as movies and video games and as I’m sure most people will notice, I stopped reviewing them altogether and quite frankly, I have no intention of going back. The reasons fluctuate, but mainly the come down to two reasons. Number one, I’m not that big of a television fan and number two… Fans for television shows will cut your head off if you say anything bad about their baby. Movies and video games, I feed off the heat… But man… Television shows… That is a whole different kind of monster. So, I decided that I would play around with the potential reasons why people are so protective of their television shows. These are the Top 5 Reasons Why Reviewing Television Show are a Pain in the Ass. Continue reading “Top 4 Reasons Why Reviewing Television Shows is a Pain in the Ass”
On the return of the Nerdiest Talk Show on Earth, Fiona and I talk about Ryan Murphy television shows like American Horror Story and Glee.
We also talk about the future of NTSOE and Derailed Games!
So far in Devil’s Advocate Month, we have talked about an underrated superhero movie from the 90’s and a decent movie overshadowed by its predecessor. But now it is time for the fun to begin! Let’s talk about something that everyone tends to love and give a dissenting opinion… AKA shit all over it. So today, I am going to be the Devil’s Advocate for the popular television show, The Office. One of the most popular series through the mid 2000’s and early 2010’s, The Office has been the inspiration for a lot of humor in adults we see today. To say that is influential is a foregone conclusion. But whether or not the series is actually good… Well that is an argument that I am ready to make in the less popular direction. Continue reading “Devil’s Advocate Month: The Office (USA)”
On this episode of The Nerdiest Talk Show on Earth, I am joined, once again, by my good friend Erik Glasgow. On this episode, we discuss direct to streaming television and movies on Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, and so forth.
I do enjoy horror movies. I’m not some pretentious twat wagon that sticks his nose in the air at the mere mention of a slasher flick or a murder spree adventure. Hell, I love the Friday the 13th franchise and I am one of the critics that will constantly praise Saw as being one of the best horror franchises of the past couple of decades. I do enjoy them… But man, of all the genres out there, horror is the one that is filled with the most mind numbing crap. Oh! Speaking of mind numbing crap, let’s talk about Darknet!
I was expecting a lot more out of this series going into it. I saw it on Netflix while browsing through the lists one day and thought: ‘Hmmm…. I do enjoy a good anthology series AND people are comparing it to American Horror Story and V/H/S so I’ll give it a go.’ After watching it, it is nowhere near the same level as American Horror Story and V/H/S. It isn’t even in the same room as American Horror Story and V/H/S. Darknet is the lowly fry cook dumping the used grease into a back alley while American Horror Story and V/H/S enjoy a lovely dinner with sensible good movies and television series. Where has this been all my life? Oh it has been a while since South Park: The Stick of Truth came out and just now have I finally been able to play the thing and good lord in heaven this is an absolute marvel to behold. Everything that I love in a game is here wrapped in a nice little nostalgic bow from the television show that I enjoyed so much as a teenagers forcing my way through high school. South Park is one of those shows I feel like everyone gets involved in at some point in their life. They watch a season or two religiously and then go on in life either taking one of two routes, looking back on South Park as a classic television show that tackles heavy issues in today’s society with a ‘nothing is sacred’ mentality or they look back on it saying South Park is a big pile of crap masked by its smug sense of irreverence played off as intelligent political satire. I feel smarter for saying that sentence.
Either rate, I am one of the ones who looks upon South Park with relatively kind eyes. I do think the show after several years seemed to get off on the idea that they were edgy in their political ideals. But overall I firmly enjoyed the show and still find it to be one of the best television series of the past two decades. With its brilliant cross over into the realms of video gaming, South Park has endeared me to the franchise once again. Continue reading “Tanner Reviews South Park: The Stick of Truth”
For anyone who doesn’t know I am actually a casual pro wrestling fan. I loved it whenever I was a child… Just like every other child when I come to think of it and as an adult I have learned to respect the craft and the art that is professional wrestling. It is an entertaining show and the things that wrestlers do to entertain the masses is staggering when you stop to think about it. They put their bodies on the line and in most cases shorten their lives extensively in order to entertain the people at home watching the show. I may not be a hardcore fan, but I do certainly enjoy it and watch it whenever I can. Of course one of the things synonymous with wrestling is championship belts. Variety truly is the spice of life and there are countless numbers of belts that promotions have used in the past to display their champions, tag champions, women’s champions, and so forth. Some have weird stipulations while others are simply the best wrestler gets the strap. Continue reading “WWE Specials: Best and Worst WWE Hardcore Champions”
So if I haven’t made it clear before that I am a fan of the original G1 Transformers… Let me just state again that I am. I think it should be rather obvious after the multiple posts that I have made, but it is truly one of the center pieces to my childhood. I have done a lot of posts about Transformers bu shockingly enough I have not done one that simply lists the best of the best. After all there were hundreds of these assholes running around, spanning the entire first generation! It is perfect for a top ten list and now is the time to give it up. So this is the Top 10 Best Generation 1 Transformers!
As always I have to say that this list is my own personal opinion. If you have a different opinion I would love to hear it. I always love a good debate. I based this list on the popularity of the character in the series, their impact on future generations, their impact in the series itself, and their contribution to the franchise as a whole. With that being said, let’s get started with some honorable mentions. Continue reading “Top 10 Generation 1 Transformers”
