It is a sad fact of life, but where there is a fandom of fervent fans who absolutely love a TV show, movie series, or video game… There is going to be deaths so tragic that it just brings a tear to your eye at the mere sound or sight of their name. Those characters that will always be remembered tragically and with contempt for the creators for taking our beloved treasures away from us. This list is to commemorate 5 of those characters who left us with a void in our heart that simply could not be replaced.
So here are the Rules
One character per franchise. Harry Potter has a plethora of tragic deaths… But only one can be chosen.
The character has to stay dead or have a complete character redesign.
There is no rhyme or reason to this list. It is just ten characters whose deaths hurt the most.
If I missed someone from your favorite fandom, I’ll be honest it might just be because I missed it… Or I just don’t care about that particular fandom.
There are spoilers from this point on. So if you get upset… Oh well, not my problem. Continue reading “5 Deaths that Devastated Fandoms”
Summer blockbuster season has started! It is that magical time of year again where we flock to the theaters in waves to see the next bright shiny ball of polished media to consume. What a way to kick it off. The first day in May and we have the next installment in Marvel Studios, The Avengers: Age of Ultron. We are now past the point of initial awe of the series and well on a collision course with an end game that I can’t see in the near future… But at least it is a series that is built upon its own awesome… So there is that.
What else can you say about The Avengers at this point? The movies are what they are, small pieces of a much larger puzzle to be pieced together every couple of months for our mass enjoyment. The only problem is how long they can keep this thing up. This is the first movie where I can safely say that it has been beaten by its ensemble cast predecessors and the concept of holding patterns is getting to be problematic for the series. But more on that later.
I guess for the sake of people who will lynch me if I don’t toss this out here, there will be some (not many so fuck off) spoilers in the more analytic parts of this review so if you don’t want it spoiled at all, skip to the conclusion.
On this episode of NTSOE, I am joined by Fiona Kelly, Nick Uroseva, and Tom Goldthwait from Derailed Games. On this episode, we discuss the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the ten movies (as of this date) that make them up! I hope you all enjoy some witty banter and some great information on the MCU!
Thanks again to my wonderful girlfriend Kitty who is the proud owner of an X-Box One to allow me to play some of the games that she has bought over the year. My last trek has left me with a strong impression of today’s subject, Disney Infinity: Marvel Superheroes. An action and adventure sandbox game, this interesting look into the future of gaming includes little figurines that you place on a port to play as the given character or use a certain level. After giving the game a little go, I have to say that it was quite a rewarding experience and one I had a great deal of fun playing.
Disney Infinity: Marvel Superheroes doesn’t have a lot of a plot per say as much as it has an open sandbox world with several quests along the way to give a try. You get to play as some of your favorite Marvel and Disney characters dependent upon which of the figurines you have at your disposal. You adventure around the city and enjoy life as a superhero, saving lives, or just fucking with people. The choice is really up to you. The first major summer blockbuster and the first film post-Avengers from the widely acclaimed Marvel series that is going on, Iron Man 3 had a tough order to fill. Even though Iron Man and the continuing story of Tony Stark is arguably the most popular of the Avengers franchise it is easy to see how this film could hit rock bottom and hard.
I kept this in mind when I went to the theater with my friends this past weekend and was ready to expect an awesome Superhero Blockbuster like the first Iron Man film… and I was also ready to expect a painful atrocity the levels of Ryan Reynold’s shit picture Green Lantern.
