Here it is! Finally, after making it halfway through January, it is time to deal with the epitome of suck; The WORST Movies of 2016. All things considered, this year was rather good to me. I certainly saw more good movies than bad movies or at least movies that fell into the passable category. Though I do have to admit that when it comes to the bad movies, they were pretty fucking bad. This list was one of the worst trips down memory lane I have taken. From pretentious art movies to shallow sequels. From terrible YA adaptations to horrific Christian propaganda, this list is going to sum up the worst aspects of 2016 rather well.
I do have to add one more time that this list includes only movies I have personally reviewed. I am sad to say that movies like Hillary’s America and Vaxxed will not be on this list because I did not see them. Though I can safely tell you, from reading the synopsis, and seeing critic reviews that they would almost certainly have taken the 1 and 2 spot if I had seen them. With that said, we will start with one dishonorable mention and then move on to number five! Continue reading “Worst Movies of 2016”
I know, already, that I am going to get some shit for this list. Fans of the young adult genre, both movies and books, cling tightly to their fandoms and will tear the throats out of anyone who disagrees with them or challenges them. I fear that once this post is up and on my website that I am going to have angry people spanning from 14-23 ready to burn down my house and steal my kittens. But no matter the consequences, this is something that has been a long time coming.
Young Adult movies have had a huge surgance since the mid 2000’s. Before someone corrects me to tell me they have been around before then, I am well aware that the genre has been around for decades. However, with Harry Potter and Twilight came a massive wave of young adult movies and more popular books that has been in the forefront of the movie industry for some time. While the movies have waned in popularity over the years, they certainly hold a strong following of people who will see them and fight anyone who says bad things about them to their last breath. While the genre has certainly been a rollercoaster from the acclaimed Harry Potter franchise to the dregs of horrendousness that was The Host, there are certain mistakes that this movie genre continues to make that cannot be ignored. So with that being said, this list is to commemorate 5 mistakes that the majority of Young Adult Movie Adaptations continue to make.
I should stress a few ground rules. First off, I will primarily be focusing on young adult book to movie adaptations. Second, I do not deny that some of these mistakes have permeated to other movie genres. Some of these things can be found outside the young adult spectrum. What I am saying is that young adult movies are the worst culprits of this. Third, I am NOT saying that young adult movies are bad!!! I want to make that perfectly clear. There are some out there that I like. I am not making a blanket statement! With that said, let’s get going. Continue reading “5 Mistakes Most Young Adult Movies Make”
2016 sucks… Of course I miss movies like Hardcore Henry, of course I miss movies like Zootopia. I, instead, get left with the festering piles of crap that I bring all the hate filled bile to the forefront of my mind. I have seen two movies that are worth while this year and the rest have either been trash or at best forgettable. I need a good movie from 2016. Just to prove that there is something left in the tank. Please, if you are out there, send Zootopia. I want that movie! I NEED to see that movie! Just to prove that their is a cinema god out there and that he doesn’t hate me.
I cannot think to write a full review for this movie because this movie doesn’t deserve a full review. It isn’t because it is so horrendous that I cannot write, it is because it is moderately horrendous mixed in with the right amount of forgettable “seen it before” crap that it is fading from my memory even as I write these words. It is my hope that I can get this review written before I completely forget about it. I mean, I should have known. The January movies are quietly being released to the five people who actually wanted to watch them again so I can continue to pick the bones of their carcasses. Either way, let’s get this shit over with. Continue reading “Tanner Reviews The 5th Wave”
For a special review of Tanner Reviews Brandon, Shaila, my roommates, and I went to the opening screening of the newest young adult movie to hit the theaters, Divergent. While most of my friends are camera shy, that did not prevent Brandon and I from jumping in front of the camera and giving our two cents after the movie was over. Despite the fact that they shut the lights off on us, we still got it finished.
